After unveiling the latest-generation Ninja and Ninja Ultra last month, Atomos has announced a new series of their Shogun monitor recorders—the Shogun and Shogun Ultra. The Shogun models share much in common with the new Ninja models but with larger 7-inch touchscreens boasting 2,000 nits brightness (compared to the Ninja’s 1,000 nits) as well as built-in cloud connectivity.
Like the Ninjas, the new Shogun monitor/recorders make use of the faster, more feature-packed AtomOS 11. The new operating system offers EL Zone exposure referenced colorized image, ARRI False Color, new scheduled playback and recording tools, and more standard codecs, including 6K Apple ProRes RAW (8K ProRes RAW option for the Shogun Ultra) and Apple ProRes, DNxHD, and H.265, which were previously only available as a paid option. The Shogun Ultra can record Apple ProRes RAW at 4K/60p while recording HD video at 60fps to H.265.
Shipping in October, the Shogun and Shogun Ultra are priced at $1,000 and $1,200, respectively.
