By Ian Bongso-Seldrup, February 13, 2019 @ 04:00 AM (EST)

Underwater housing maker Aquatica has announced that it is developing an “extensive” monitor/recorder series for use with its housings. In a recent news release (PDF), the Canadian company introduces the first monitor in the line, the 5HD, which is currently undergoing testing.

According to the specifications given in the announcement, the monitor boasts a 5.7-inch IPS LED-backlit display, Full HD (1920x1080) resolution, a contrast ratio of 1400:1, and brightness of 460 cd/m². The specs also mention a false color tool, focus peaking assist, and color temperature adjustment.

Aquatica has promised more details as well as pricing information “in the coming weeks.”

Last week in Bonaire we did some final testing on our new 5HD monitor, this monitor will be part of an extensive monitor/recorder series.

Monitor specifications:

  • Full HD 1920x1080 Display Resolution
  • 460 cd/m² Brightness
  • 1400:1 Contrast Ratio
  • 5.7" IPS LED-Backlit Display
  • Accepts 4K HDMI Input
  • Peaking focus assist
  • False colors tool
  • Safe area (80/85/90/93/96%, 2.35:1)
  • Image flip (H, V, H/V)
  • Color temperature adjustment

“Normally I would stay away from any type of monitor system, so far only viewfinders have given me accurate readings in color, sharpness and depth of field until I encountered the Aquatica 5HD monitor.

“The 5HD monitor beside it to be perfectly neutral balanced, it gave me a clear and accurate reading of the image and all the info I needed to satisfy my expectations in color balance, sharpness and depth of field.

“Without a doubt this needs to be part of my equipment.”
