With all the hoopla surrounding the new touch screen retina display on the Macbook Pro, you may have missed an omission from the design—Apple has removed the SD card slot.
That’s right: No more direct insertion of your camera’s SD card and immediate downloading. Apple’s senior vice president Phil Schiller told The Independent that the built-in slot was “cumbersome.” To be fair, I think many photographers have bent or broken SD cards because they were sticking out of the laptop.
It seems possible that the omission of the build-in SD slot also is an attempt not to pick a side in the increasing divide between camera’s using SD or CompactFlash cards.
Schiller also pointed to the increasing wireless connection with cameras: “That’s proving very useful. So we think there’s a path forward where you can use a physical adaptor if you want, or do wireless transfer.”
I sure would miss the convenience of the built-in reader—how about you?
