If you need an inexpensive housing that gets you in the water with your new GoPro, DJI Osmo or Insta360 Action camera, AOI has you covered with their UH-ACT universal housing. But what if you want to get serious and capture some really pro-level footage with your action cam? To fulfill such aspirations, AOI collaborated with pro cinematographer Kay Burn Lim to create the UH-GPx “Signature Series” housing for GoPro in 2024. We’re talking aluminum construction, integrated 5-inch Full HD monitor, built-in power bank, and Vacuum Analyzation & Wet Detection System (VWS). The catch here is the significant weight (4.1lb/1,877g) as well as the weighty asking price ($2,000). Not only that, the UH-GPx is only compatible with GoPro HERO9 through HERO13.
With that in mind, AOI has announced a couple of interesting variations on their “pro-level” universal housing concept—the UH-GP HP and the UH-DJA6 HP. The new models—for GoPros and DJI Osmo Action 6, respectively—offer the same integrated monitor, extended battery life, and vacuum safety system, but with a “high-grade” polycarbonate chassis construction instead. This will reduce the housings’ weight as well as the retail price—though by how much we don’t know as AOI hasn’t yet divulged any numbers. Note that the transition from aluminum to polycarbonate also results in a minor depth-rating hit: The new housings can go down to 50 meters (~165 feet) as opposed to the original housing’s 60 meters (~200 feet)—a difference that won’t matter to most.
