Announcing the Winners of the First Think Pink Photo Competition
By Ian Bongso-Seldrup, August 15, 2017 @ 06:00 AM (EST)

First place – Nicholas More

DPG and Dive into the Pink are very pleased to announce the winners of the first Think Pink Photo Competition. The contest, organized by Dive into the Pink and hosted by DPG, invited photographers to submit their most exciting images featuring the color pink, with proceeds used to support the fight against breast cancer.

We had a phenomenal response, with almost 300 entries raising over $2500 for breast cancer research and patient support. Ultimately, however, there could only be one winner, and our judging panel unanimously decided that Nicholas More’s awesome gray seal image was top of the pile. Nick wins a seven-day trip for one to Crystal Blue Resort in Anilao, Philippines.

Second place was awarded to Suzan Meldonian for her unusual image of juvenile jacks sheltering in a pyrosome, winning her a Kraken Hydra 2800 light. Third went to Fredrik Ehrenström for his beautifully executed water lily with Snell’s window, earning him a Kraken Weefine ring light. The judges also felt that Alison Perkins deserved an honorable mention for her fascinating capture of an anemone releasing eggs. She receives a signed copy of Alex Mustard’s new book, Secrets of the Seas.

Second place – Suzan Meldonian

Congratulations to Nick, Suzan, Fredrik and Alison, and huge thanks to everyone who donated via their entries as well as many others who gave separate donations to Dive into the Pink. We’d also like to thank the esteemed judges—Mike Bartick, Erin Quigley, and Mike Veitch—for lending their valuable time and expertise.

Competition organizer Allison Vitsky said: “When I created Dive into the Pink, I was looking for a way to fight cancer by doing something I love, as well as a way to engage divers and underwater photographers so that fundraising would seem secondary. I’ve been amazed at the positive response to everything we’ve done, but I’ve been especially touched by the response to our first annual photo contest. I can't thank all of you enough for your support—although it isn’t just the entries that matter, it’s also the ‘Likes’ and hashtags, the word of mouth, the personal stories of survivorship, and the notes of encouragement. Congratulations to the winners and to all of you for embracing this effort! We hope to see your entries and engagement again in 2018.”
