ADEX (Asian Dive Expo) once again graced the shores of Singapore. Running into its 16th year, this 2010 show has proved to be one of the most meaningful and biggest ever.
Meaningful because after a 10 years absence, the original founder of Adex (Asian Diver Magazine) finally got back into the driver’s seat hosting the show. And with a total sold out of 104 booths, and an official turn out of 2,1200 visitors, it surely is one of the biggest.
Held at Suntec Convention Center, exhibitors from all over the diving industry showed up in full force. Attendees could enjoy exhibits from resorts, dive equipment manufactures, underwater photographers, dive operators, and NGOs all under one roof.

keeping in the tradition of all good dive shows, the crowd was rewarded with great bargains with everything from trips, dive courses, equipment, and the latest gadgets.
With this year’s theme of “Saving Sharks,” the 3 day event was packed with celebrity speakers like living legend Stan Waterman, shark experts Rodney Fox and John ‘Chip’ Scarlett, and underwater photographers Todd Essick, William Tan, and me, Aaron Wong.

There was even a massage corner to relax the tired muscles and free internet booths for those who really need to be connected.

For those with the need to stay connected, the show offers free Internet. Journalist could start loading up their story as the show when along.
Members of the Asian Diver team were also walking around the show with cameras shooting live feeds that can be seen on ADEX’s website.
In short, it was one of those shows you wished lasted a few more days. With more than a third of the booths already sold, next years Adex will promise to be even bigger and better. I can’t wait!

The living Legend himself, Stan Waterman kicks the show off with his opening speech.

The crowd began packing the show right from the get go. It sure was nice seeing so many familiar faces!

It was like a bunch of over grown kids in an over sized candy store.

With the launch of his new book, “Loving Sharks,” at Adex 2010, John A. Scarlett was on hand at the DPG booth for 3 days of book signing. Needless to say, it drew in huge crowds who seem to have endless questions about photographing these beautiful creatures.

(From left) John A. Scarlett, Aaron Wong (me again!) and Stan Waterman. A picture I treasure dearly. It was a great honor to have met them, let a lone share the same stage. Living legends or not, they are just a bunch of good fellas, and it was great hanging out and sharing stories. Trust me, these guys have some crazy stories.

As a kid I remember seeing black & white of a man with stitches across his back from a great white attack. It’s hard to imagine meeting him in person. The man is none other than great white shark expert, Rodney Fox.

The post party was a crazy affair as always. Good music, good company, and, of course, a free flow of wine and beer!
