Participants, photo pros and guides get ready for another awesome workshop

Lembeh Resort’s 8th annual “Capturing Critters in Lembeh” workshop kicked off yesterday in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. This unique weeklong underwater imaging workshop features three visiting world-class photo professionals and this year’s impressive lineup includes Saeed Rashid, Alex Tyrrell and Todd Winner.

The 16 participants have an action-packed week ahead with three dives and pro presentations each day, group critique sessions, and the all-important one-on-one time with the pros.

During the workshop, participants will be taken from camera basics through to advanced techniques and editing. Alex Tyrrell is set to host some of the most popular topics including Macro Composition; Black and Blue Backgrounds; and Bokeh. Todd Winner is taking on Super Macro and Strobes, and Saeed Rashid will be handling Lightroom and Post Processing. James Emery, Lembeh Resort’s in-house pro, kicked off the presentations with a reminder to all about basic macro camera settings and exposure.

If seven days of intensive macro shooting isn’t enough, an additional two night wide-angle extension completes this year’s lineup.

For anyone who hasn’t dived the Lembeh Strait and is wondering what all the fuss is about, this is home to the most concentrated population of rare and unusual marine life on Earth. Lembeh’s volcanic black sand sites leave critters relatively exposed and the rare species that are found here are often “hiding in plain sight.”

Lembeh Resort’s dive guides are marine biology trained by in-house marine biologists Dimpy Jacobs and Agus Peloa, who will also be presenting on how to capture striking images of critters according to their natural behaviors and habitats. Lembeh Resort’s impressive underwater photography facilities, Backscatter Authorized Photo Center, and luxury resort amenities guarantee that the participants are going to be well looked after on all fronts.

Year after year “Capturing Critters” continues to grow and attract some of the biggest names in underwater photography—we are excited to see participant and pro images later in the week!

Lembeh Resort’s “Capturing Critters in Lembeh” annual workshops are extremely popular and places sell out a long time in advance. If you'd like to book a place for the 2021 workshop (January 30–February 6), with photo pros Jade Hoksbergen, Henley Spiers, and Alex Tattersall, contact Lembeh Resort.
