The World Festival of Underwater Pictures will take place in Marseille from October 27th to the 31st and is now accepting entries. The Festival, which used to take place in Antibes, is considered one of the most prestigious festivals in the industry. Last year was the first time it was held in Marseille, and by all accounts the new location was a success. Press Release
The World Festival of Underwater Pictures will take place for the second successive year at the Palais du Pharo in Marseille, from 27 to 31 October 2010.
Jean-Michel Cousteau will be the honorary president of the 37th World Festival of Underwater Pictures. We will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of his father, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, in presence of those who took part in the Calypso odyssey.
Author of "The Cousteau team adventure in comics", Dominique Serafini will invite us to relive this journey with an exhibition of large-format reproductions of drawings.
ENTRIES FOR THE 2010 COMPETITION ARE NOW OPEN
This year a new category will be introduced: the "Photo-Trio". This competition asks photographers to enter three digital photographs without any limitations on style. It’s open to everyone, professionals and amateurs, as are all the Festival competitions, but it is aimed more specifically at amateur participants who don’t have the possibility of entering a series of ten images each year, as required by the Portfolio category.
Participants in this new competition may also participate in other competitions in the Festival, as long as the same images do not appear in two different categories.
Some reminders for the photographers:
The "Our World Underwater Scholarship Society" prize will be attributed to a photo entered in one of the Festival competitions (colour print or black & white print) taken by a young photographer not more than 25 years old.
The prize of the French Conchology Association (AFC) and the "Jorge Albuquerque” prize will be awarded either to an image entered in the Conchology competition itself or in the other photographic competitions (print, Portfolio, or Photo-Trio).
The Andre Laban prize, the “Blue Passion” will reward an image entered in the “Colour Photo” category.
Also, the "Apnéa" prize for the best photo of a free-diving subject is not a competition but a prize awarded to the best image on this theme in any of the different photo competitions (colour print, black and white print, Portfolio, or Photo-Trio). The same applies for the "Ocean Geographic Society" prize for the best image of a jellyfish. Keep this in mind when you are selecting your photos.
You will find Regulations and opportunity to register online on our website. Please pay attention to the regulations in order to avoid mistakes.
Attention : Last date for receiving entries, 15th September
The Festival is open to all, professionals, amateurs and all lovers of the underwater world.
