Best of Show: Compact Cameras – Gold – Enrico Somogyi

DivePhotoGuide and Wetpixel are thrilled to announce the winners of the 2020 DEEP Indonesia International Underwater Photo Competition. In conjunction with the DPG/Wetpixel Masters Underwater Imaging Competition, the contest constitutes what has become known as the “Super Bowl” of underwater imaging competitions, offering more than $100,000 in prizes.

Once again, the contest attracted hundreds of entries from all over the world, with photographers hoping to bag their share of awesome travel and equipment prizes. This year’s judging panel included professional underwater photographers Mike Bartick, Renee Capozzola, Ellen Cuylaerts, Tobias Friedrich, Kate Jonker, and Andrew Marriott.

Congratulations to Enrico Somogyi, who clinched the “Best of Show” award for his brilliant image of a golden jellyfish, which was shot in Palau. Judge Ellen Cuylaerts summed it up best: “A beautiful, surreal approach to a common subject. Looks like an outer space scene, with marine life taking a time out from planet Earth, but keeping a close connection. It caught my eye and made me dream of exploration!”

As with all Underwater Competition contests, 15% of proceeds will be donated directly to marine conservation efforts.
