The petition for Resorts World Singapore (RWS) to release 25 dolphins held in captivity has exceeded the 100,000 mark.
Dolphin activist Barbara Napoles initiated the action on Change.org, the latest website encouraging social change, in order to raise public awareness to the dolphins’ plight. Of the 27 dolphins captured in the Solomon Islands for display at the Resort World Singapore facility, 25 have so far survived in a temporary holding facility in the Philippines.
In addition to the online petition, the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) –an animal protection group based in Singapore- has begun gathering local momentum for the dolphins’ release.
"The public has shown their strong support for the dolphins' release,” said Louis Ng, the Executive Director of ACRE, “and we are confident that an increasing number of people will sign the petition urging RWS to make a moral and ethical decision to let the dolphins go."
You can find more information on the progress of the petition, as well as the opportunity to sign along more than 100,000 others, at the “Please Help Free the ‘Sentosa 25’” petition website.
