Biography of Underwater Photographer Marcelo Mariozi

Marcelo Mariozi was born and raised close by the Sea in Rio de Janeiro, shooting underwater since 1999, he is a CMAS Dive & UWPhoto Instructor and Captain of the Brazilian UWPhoto Team. An airline pilot living in Dubai - UAE, he is EDA - Emirates Diving Association UWPhoto Coordinator and is working hard to develop uwphotography in the UAE.

What I look for in a Dive Operator:
Nice UWPhoto services, like big uncrowded boats, separate and adequate rinse tanks for DSLR equipment, options to dive outside the group, solo diving.

Looks like Sea&Sea is listening to what is said by customers, as they made good use of the opportunity to add some new features to this already great housing, based on these images here are the changes I could quickly found out:
-The new OK button (now accessed via a button on the top-right side of the normal thumb-pad controls);
-New inclined playback and delete buttons (to match the inclined menu buttons);
-New inclined Main-Command dial;
-New Sub-Command dial in the same wheel style as the back Main-Command dial, and closer to the right hand fingers;
-New optical connectors for easy TTL;
All these changes makes the back of the housing not compatible with the existing MDX-D300 housing, but although the new housing is somewhat bigger than the old non-S model, I think all the changes are really ergonomically sound and will make a very good housing even better.

I use Sea&Sea housings since 1999, and the Sea&Sea new MDX line of housings are the best housing that Sea&Sea has ever made, and that's a great sentence since the japanese maker has been doing very good and reliable pieces of equipment for a long time.

The level of precision is extremely high as well as it's compactness. It is an "old" housing in digital era terms, and maybe the only thing one would miss is the optical connectors for the in-camera flash, but that would come with a little extra bulkiness, so being a trade-off I don't think it could miss one star for that.

Matching the Nikon DX amazing lens choice the Sea&Sea Optical Dome Port made of glass is a tremendous option. And Sea&Sea Compact Macro Port systems makes it very versatile and yet compact for macro lens selection from the 35mm Tokina to the 200mm Nikkor.

Today more than 2 years after the launch of the D300 it is still the housing I recommend to my students. The new MDX-D300s is about to be launched, keep an eye for that as it must come even better.

I love my equipment, I write this review in 2009 more than 2 years after launch date and it is still a big camera, Nikon D300 users have been enjoying a level of control and productivity since Aug 2007 that no other camera maker could only provide to their user until today (Nov 2009).

It was a big 5 star when it came out, I just dropped it one star due to the video capability that now seems to be standard. The high ISO capability of the D3 and D700 series which one can miss in very specific situations is another point but those cameras don't have the smaller size of the D300 nor it's amazing DX lens choice so they also don't get my 5 stars.

In fact I believe the D300 and now D300s are the best DSLRs for general UWPhoto. It might loose today in total image quality (IQ) to newer consumer models (D90) but the productivity given by the DX lens choice, sealed magnesium body, 100% viewfinder, advanced CAM3500 AF system, Matrix 3D metering viewing all color range on a 1005 pixel meter sensor, the absolute complete menus that makes the camera shoot as you like and not what the camera maker thinks you like, are the best, even in high ISO shooting the D300 accepts treatment really well after wise, is so amazing that I can attest that anyone well trained in uwphoto will be able to get more keepers with a camera like that.
