Biography of Underwater Photographer Graham P. Mcmahon

25 years diving, mainly in Australia. Used to be a PADI instructor but now I just dive for fun

What I look for in a Dive Operator:
Efficient boat crew with a "fun" outlook. I prefer those who don't push the "sales" line

From the beginning I want tp make it clear that I am an amateur photographer. Enthusiastic yes, but still an amateur. I wanted a camera similar to my Panasonic Lumix FZ28, but this would have meant outlaying about $2000 Aus. Having a housing custom made was going to cost about $800. My views changed when I enrolled in a digital underwater photography course. My instructor leant me her camers - an Intova "point & shoot". I was stunned at the quality of the photos it could take, and bought my own Intova IC 800. So far I am really impressed. I'm not sure that I could take better shots even with a more expensive DSLR (remember, I am an amateur).

Good features - Good colour, sharp images. Allows manual white balancing and/or fit with a filter to replace red light lost at depth (saves buying a strobe, but you can fit one if you want). You can also fit wet lenses whilst underwater.

Bad points - every now and then it says "low battery" and turns off. If you wait a few minutes you can turn it back on with plenty of battery life remaining. Not sure why this happens
