Biography of Underwater Photographer Stuart A. Halewood

I am a Research Diver for the University of California Santa Barbara and a self-professed underwater photography addict. Still a beginner in the wet world of photography I shoot mainly Macro and concentrate on images that can be used for scientific identification but hope to expand my vision to all genres.

What I look for in a Dive Operator:
Someone with great local knowledge and the flexibility to accommodate the dive group as a whole not just an individual.

I have been using and still am using the SP-350 and love that this model has the fully programmable 'My Mode' feature and can shoot in RAW. I will admit that RAW slows the camera down and the shutter lad has always been unfortunate. But this camera is still a great entry level option. A shame it has been discontinued but I still see people out there using them and holding on to them carefully!

Nice Job Jason! Funny I've just been looking at the SPOT system for us to maybe use on our small research dive boats out at the So Cal Channel Islands. Great to know they are already thinking of an underwater canister!

Mike: Great article! I'm looking forward to the next installments. I too am a Cali Nudi lover and I think you have some excellent images there. Keep the shooting tips coming! I'm luck enough to dive the Southern Cali Channel Islands as part of my job and will be keeping my Nudidude eye wide open!
