Nikon D300

I love my equipment, I write this review in 2009 more than 2 years after launch date and it is still a big camera, Nikon D300 users have been enjoying a level of control and productivity since Aug 2007 that no other camera maker could only provide to their user until today (Nov 2009).

It was a big 5 star when it came out, I just dropped it one star due to the video capability that now seems to be standard. The high ISO capability of the D3 and D700 series which one can miss in very specific situations is another point but those cameras don't have the smaller size of the D300 nor it's amazing DX lens choice so they also don't get my 5 stars.

In fact I believe the D300 and now D300s are the best DSLRs for general UWPhoto. It might loose today in total image quality (IQ) to newer consumer models (D90) but the productivity given by the DX lens choice, sealed magnesium body, 100% viewfinder, advanced CAM3500 AF system, Matrix 3D metering viewing all color range on a 1005 pixel meter sensor, the absolute complete menus that makes the camera shoot as you like and not what the camera maker thinks you like, are the best, even in high ISO shooting the D300 accepts treatment really well after wise, is so amazing that I can attest that anyone well trained in uwphoto will be able to get more keepers with a camera like that.

I love my D300...I went from a D100 to a D200 and now the D300. It does everything I need it to do for me and performs flawlessly. I'm married to an underwater videographer so I don't even feel the urge to upgrade to the D300s! It's been a workhorse for me both below and above the water for the past few years and I look forward to many more years of excellent performance.

Love my D300. Fantastic camera!

My first DSLR and love it. I use it all the time above and underwater and with a good lens this body can produce images as good or better as any other camera in it's range. Maybe the high iso settings are not as good as some newer models but still and amazing camera.

I am mostly a macro shooter and this camera coupled with a Nikon Af-105-vr lens is as good as it gets.

I just upgraded from D200 to D300, and even though I love the D200 I can already feel the difference. D300 is much stronger in ISO above 400, as faster auto focus and of course the bigger LCD screen gives a better idea of exposure, sharpness and all those things that can be difficult to see under water. It is a very cold winter in Denmark this year, so I have only testet the D300 5 times - it has been ice diving in with water temp. below zero. But the low temp. does not affect the camera at all.

I've upgraded from the D100 to the D200 to my current D300; each model was an improvement but the D300 was a significant improvement over the D200. It's a robust body that performs well both below and above the water...I have no inclination to upgrade to the D300s because I don't feel the need to have the video capability. I love my camera!
