Video Cameras

The options for video cameras for underwater use are relatively small. Housing manufacturers focus on select models, primarily from Sony and Canon, in addition to limited models from Panasonic and JVC. Video cameras range from consumer camcorders to professional cinematic models. Today all new cameras will shoot in high definition (HD). We strongly suggest consulting the housing finder to understand what underwater housing options are available for any camera before making a final decision.

If you are buying your first underwater video system, or just want a refresher on the features to consider, take a few minutes to read our Introduction to Underwater Video.

We also ask you to help us make this guide even more useful by rating and reviewing your equipment, which will help other videographers in their underwater video decision process.
