Photographer of the Week – Davide Lopresti

Davide Lopresti’s relationship with the sea is perhaps best encapsulated with the word “respect.” Growing up in a family of fishermen in Fezzano—a quaint village on the Italian Riviera—Davide looked for every chance to stick his head under the water. He not only loved the sea; he lived it.

Davide’s respect for the ocean is imbued into his images through a sense of delicacy—often communicated through creative lighting techniques and capturing the decisive moment. As is natural for a true aquaphile, Davide’s interests have expanded from the saline sea to backwoods creeks and fashion shoots.

His awards are as numerous and diverse as his subjects, including distinctions from the Underwater Photographer of the Year (2016), National Geographic Italia (2014), Siena International Photo Awards (2015), and several prizes from the Underwater Competition Series. Davide also enjoys giving back to the community by sharing his imaging secrets and thoughts on the latest gear in various publications.
