Photographer of the Week – Els Van Den Borre
By Joseph Tepper, April 14, 2016 @ 06:00 AM (EST)

In underwater photography, two can be better than one. Take for example the dynamic duo of Els Van Den Borre and Bruno Van Saen, a married photography tandem.

Sure, taken individually both are impressive photojournalists with a long list of accolades. But when put together, it becomes clear that Els and Bruno push each other’s limits, raising the bar with every trip from which they return. In Els’ case, it is her seemingly limitless patience that helps her capture the perfect moment—whether it’s a yawning clownfish or a trio of pygmy seahorses. She spends upwards of 100 minutes with each subject.

Such dedication has resulted in numerous awards, including a top prize in Scuba Diving magazine’s 2013 imaging contest. When not underwater, Els can be found in her zen zone as a physiotherapist, where she specializes in power pilates and acupuncture. Maybe that helps with the patience underwater...
