Happy World Oceans Day
By Matt J. Weiss, June 8, 2011 @ 12:49 PM (EST)
The UN has marked June 8th as World Ocean Day, asking that governments and all citizens play their part in protecting the oceans. Like Earth Day, the UN is hoping that World Ocean day will spur a global effort to help our planet's severely threatened oceans.
Secretary General Ban Ki-moo make a statement today to mark the day, and stressed "that all policies related to oceans and the marine environment need to acknowledge and incorporate the three pillars of sustainable development: environmental, social and economic. "
DPG is happy to see that the UN is recognizing the frightening condition of our oceans. As always, we ask you to ask yourself, "what have I done for the ocean lately?"
