The winners of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2016 competition have been announced.
The results are splendid and we are truly honored to see so many DPG members, contributors, and friends among those honored. Many of these artists received honors in the “Underwater” category, including Tony Wu, Joris van Alphen, Ralph Pace, and Greg Lecour.
But then there are other surprise winners in non-underwater categories (but with underwater images)—most impressive. Alex Mustard took home an award in the “Birds” category with diving birds in the waters surrounding a California oil rig. And Joanna Lentini was a finalist in the “Impressions” category with a stunning image of the bloody tracks of a polar bear.
Finally, the top image (and $10,000 cash prize) went to Tim Laman for a stunning shot of a Bornean orangutan. Most impressively, the $10,000 winning image was captured with a $400 GoPro HERO 4 Black. Talk about return on investment.
Congrats to all, and check out a gallery of the winners, here.
