Rumor: Two New Nikon FX Cameras in August
Over the last few weeks, whispers of a major Nikon press release in August have surfaced in numerous photography forums. What seems most concrete at this point is that Nikon has scheduled several press release slots on August 24th, and some Nikon product representatives have leaked it is most likely to announce two new full frame SLRs.
A statement from an unnamed Nikon rep has been circulating the forums: “Two new FX bodies will be announced by the end of August. Availability in Fall.” Although the rep failed to specify which models would be updated, it seems most likely that Nikon will be targeting the “pro market” with a D3 replacement and the “expert market” with a D700 upgrade.
The possibility of these upgrades is significant on two levels. From a technical standpoint, many photo-enthusiasts seem to be on the edge of their seat waiting to see how Nikon can outdo the buzz made by the D7000 announcement last year. On the larger scale, this product announcement is likely to be the first of a major DSLR since the Japan tsunami in May.
Make sure to stay with DPG as the August date approaches for full coverage of the release and the implications it will have in the underwater photography field.
