The Our World Underwater scuba diving show in Chicago celebrated its 39th year this week. We love this show and the warm welcome we get every year in Chicago (in contrast to the cold weather). The group behind the show, Pat & Sherry Hammer, Eileen Skiba, Denis Gagnon and the plethora of volunteers, do an excellent job. In 2006, together with our partners and good friends at Wetpixel, we launched our first international underwater photo & video competition, in association with Our World Underwater. The rest, as they say, is history.
We will be running coverage of all the underwater photography and video booths that exhibited at the show. In the meantime, check out this short video I put together amidst running around setting up the DivePhotoGuide booth and the display of competition winners...and PS: Make sure you watch all the way to the end for a special congratulations to the competition winners from the live audience at the fFriday night film festival...
In this next video, we caught up with Keri Wilk and Karen Doody, two of the winners of the competition, to get a brief "behind the shot" story of two of the winning images. Keri actually had four images place in various categories, including a first place image in the Super Macro category.
The Wetpixel & DivePhotoGuide International Underwater Photo & Video Competition, often referred to as the Super Bowl of
underwater imagery events, has grown to become one of the biggest, if
not the biggest underwater imagery competition in the world. We are so
humbled and honored at the support from the global community of
underwater photographers & videographers, the media and the dive
industry. As much fun as it seems to run an event like this, most
people could never guess how much tireless work goes into organizing,
promoting, managing, and presenting the competition - thanks to the judges and others who have helped along the way! But it's all worth
it. The images and videos that are submitted are inspiring and we love immersing ourselves in imagery. After looking through the gallery, it will make you
want to drop everything and go diving.
Stay tuned for complete show coverage later this week...
