Upwelling Fine Art Gallery Opens in San Diego, California
By Ian Seldrup, May 27, 2015 @ 04:15 AM (EST)

Diving and underwater photography enthusiasts in the San Diego neighborhood of La Jolla now have a new place to see California’s spectacular marine animals—the Upwelling Fine Art underwater art gallery.

Launched on May 17, the gallery was founded by the two young owners of SD Expeditions, a dive expeditions company in San Diego that introduces divers to the canyons, kelp forests, sharks and other creatures found off the California coast.

The gallery features the images of award-winning photographer Kyle McBurnie, whose work will also soon be gracing the pages of DPG.

LA JOLLA SHORES’ FIRST UNDERWATER ART GALLERY OPENS
Upwelling Fine Art Showcases Local Marine Life

La Jolla, Calif. – Upwelling Fine Art is the first-ever underwater art gallery in La Jolla Shores, showcasing beautiful images of California kelp forests, canyons and marine creatures both large and small.

The gallery, which opened with a private preview event on May 17th, featured the work of Kyle McBurnie, an award-winning photographer whose underwater work has been published in National Geographic.

“Not many people realize how amazingly beautiful the oceans off our coast are. We hope that these amazing underwater photos will connect with our audience on an emotional level and truly inspire them to be passionate about the oceans for themselves,” said Nick Lebeouf, cofounder of Upwelling Fine Art.

McBurnie, 24, and LeBeouf, 30, cofounded the gallery and named it after a local environmental process, coastal upwelling, which is responsible for much of the amazing marine life off the California coast.

The young entrepreneurs have grown their La Jolla-based company SD Expeditions into a substantial ocean expedition business in San Diego focusing on shark diving and unique wildlife encounters.

Upwelling Fine Art is now open since Monday May 18th, and is the only gallery in San Diego that features photography of local underwater marine life that can actually be seen off our California coast. The gallery is open 12PM–5PM weekdays and 11AM–6PM on weekends.

Upwelling Fine Art is the latest addition to the La Jolla Shores neighborhood and the first underwater art gallery in the area. The gallery is an artistic tribute to our magnificent oceans focusing primarily on local California ecosystems.
