Update: Lost Humpback Put To Sleep
By Matt J. Weiss, August 30, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)
I had been following the story of
an abandoned humpback whale that captured the worlds heart by
desperately fighting for its life by trying to nurse from a boat.
Yesterday, its struggle came to sad ending-the calf was put to sleep.
This was probably the best solution for the calf, as attempts for it to
find its mother failed. The calf would have starved to death, and
suffered.
The good news is that humpback whales are recovering and are one of the great success stories of conservation. Before, one single death would have had dramatic effects of the humpback population, but though its sad that the "little" guy died, the species is not in trouble.
