Almost 40 scientists are on a research mission to investigate the effects of demersal fishing on the benthic communities around Antarctica.
Apparently little is know about effects of fishing on the Antarctic benthic, community that is both diverse and vulnerable.
They will use new camera technology that will be attached to demersal gear used on commercial fishing vessels. The cameras, they hope, will measure the impact of bottom fishing. This is certainly not your typical colorful nudibranch underwater photography. You can read more about the voyage in this Science Alert article
