Italian lawyer Alessandro Dodi became so passionate about his underwater photography that he hung up his speargun in 1980 and bought a Nikonos III, a camera that remains legendary for its ability to survive the trials and tribulations inevitable when taking pictures in the sea. However, he was soon amassing even better equipment, gaining international acclaim and seeing his pictures appear in print in many magazines as the variety and quality of his work made its mark.
Alessandro was always seeking to improve and expand the range of his photography. He was continuing to do so when he met his death at the age of 48 last November in Lake Como in Italy while taking a rebreather course to enable him to extend the boundaries of his work. Sadly, everything went wrong on his second dive and he met his end without even a camera in his hand...
