Turbines To Use Tidal Flow For More Energy

By Matt J. Weiss, September 27, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)

Right here in DPG's city of New York, new science ocean science is happening. Despite traditional turbines not being utilized for the most part, new turbines are being developed that are meant to address many of the flaws in current models. The new model won't be planted in the sea bed, but actually "go with the flow" of the oceans using a pole and kite system. The high amount of current needed for turbines means that they hard to plant and get pounded by the water.

The new model, called the ESRU, will only be held down by an anchor the unit will be able to soar through the water like a kite.
