Tokina’s Lens Plans for 2020
By Joseph Tepper, March 6, 2020 @ 11:45 AM (EST)

The CP+ imaging show might have been cancelled due to the coronavirus frenzy, but that hasn’t stopped Tokina from teasing us with upcoming products. The company is a popular third-party option for underwater photographers looking to save a bit on lenses without sacrificing quality.

The 2020 roadmap for Tokina is split up into two seasons: summer and autumn. In summer, we’ll get a series of lenses dedicated to Nikon and Canon cropped-sensor (APS-C) cameras. The 11–16mm f/2.8 and 100mm f/2.8 lenses are currently on sale while the 11–20mm f/2.8 is coming soon. All three could be applicable to underwater photography. Also in summer, we’ll get a series of prime lenses for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras: 23mm f/1.4, 33mm f/1.4, and 56mm f/1.4.

In the “autumn” season, Tokina will begin to ship the same prime lenses for both Fuji Film and X-mount systems. Finally, also in autumn, there will be availability for several Sony E-mount Full Frame cameras: 85mm f/1.8 (on sale), 35mm f/1.8, and 50mm f/1.8.

It remains to be seen what the port compatibility will be for lenses that can serve use for underwater imaging, but we’ll bring you the news when it arrives.
