TIPA and EISA have announced their yearly photography gear award winners—and as is typical, it’s a pretty evenly dealt hand, with Nikon, Canon, Sony and Panasonic each picking up some not-unexpected awards.
The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) hands Nikon “Best DSLR Professional” and “Best APS-C DSLR Expert” for the D850 and D7500, respectively, and Canon gets “Best Full-Frame DSLR Expert” and “Best DSLR Enthusiast” for the EOS 6D Mark II and EOS 200D. In the mirrorless categories, Canon’s EOS M50 scores “Best Mirrorless CSC Enthusiast”, Panasonic’s Lumix G9 bags “Best Mirrorless CSC Expert”, and it’s a clean sweep for Sony in the pro area for the a7 III, a7R III, and a9—for best full frame, high-res, and high-speed mirrorless cameras. Interestingly, Panasonic’s Lumix ZS200/TZ200 picks up the award for “Best Expert Compact Camera” while Canon’s PowerShot G1X Mark III takes home the “Best Professional Compact Camera” prize. No prizes for guessing which camera was awarded “Best Professional Photo/Video Camera”—the new Panasonic GH5S, of course.
The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) awards the Sony a9 best camera overall, while the awards for “Consumer DSLR Camera”, “Prosumer DSLR Camera” and “Professional DSLR Camera” go to the Canon EOS 77D, Nikon D7500, and Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, respectively. The Panasonic GH5 gets the award for photo/video camera, the Sony RX100 V is deemed the best compact camera, and the Sony a6500 is judged the best “Prosumer Compact System Camera”.
