Thoughts On DEMA

By Matt J. Weiss, October 22, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)

DEMA is exciting. Period. Its a huge place filled with everything I, and underwater photography freak would everwant. Also, it just happends to be in Las Vegas. Although its not quite my one year mark with DPG, I feel as though this a culimination of a fantastic dive and photo year for me. Since it first hit winter jacket weather in my frigid little town of Saratoga Springs where I go to school, I have been counting the days till DEMA. Why? DEMA is everything. Its literally everything I like, all in one place. Kid in the candy store syndrome doesn't begin to explain it. Candy is far too common for it compared to DEMA, it really isn't that big a treat. Its more like the feeling I got when I walked into a store, and saw a huge selection of basketball cards.

See, I liked baseball and football cards and all that stuff, but I absolutely loved the less widely sold baksetball cards. So when I walk into DEMA I will walk straight into the basketball card section, which will be the photo pavillion. I have never got the oppurtunity to see a H20 Photo Pros or UW Photo Tech retail store, so to see what these places are all about and all at the same time, well thats just knowing your gonna pull a Lebron James rookie card.

But it gets better, you get a whole box of cards, from all different brands. All the big names in underwater photography are gonna be there like Wetpixel and X-Ray, Sea and Sea and even more obscure brands like Nexus.  It gets even better as you get boxes of other sports cards too, as the hallways open up to different dive genres like gear and travel.  There are now tons of packs of cards around me, and I simply can't wait to open them.

And oh yea, I get to open them in a candy store. Viva Las Vegas!
