In September 2006, a spearfishing enthusiast was free-diving in 8m of water, a half-mile off the Florida Keys. He trained his spear gun on a very large grouper, pulled the trigger and speared it. The grouper responded by swimming rapidly and determinedly for its life. The line suddenly wrapped taut around the man's wrist; he had no knife to cut the line, and was dragged along by the fish. When the grouper dived into a reef crevice and wedged itself tightly to escape the hunter, the free-diver remained tethered to the dying fish and couldn't return to the surface to breathe...
