Tasmanian scientists and anglers are collaborating on research into fish stocks in Hobart's River Derwent.
Researchers are using acoustic tags to monitor the movement of flathead and bream.
Dr Sean Tracey from the Tasmanian Aquaculture and Fisheries Institute says information about breeding and feeding habits is being gathered.
"We can use the information of how fish move in relation to fluctuations in the environment such as water temperature and fresh water and if there is a strong relationship between the movement and the environmental change we can draw inferences about climate change," he said.
