By Matt J. Weiss, October 6, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)
The Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan) Ltd's Coral Triangle initiative is an attempt to help protect the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. The bank has donated 350,000 dollars to initiiatve that will be administered by the WWF.
The coral triangle is an extremelly important habitat. It is the most biodiverse area in the world, and thus is important for its many inhabitants but also for the people of South East Asia that rely on its resources.
I had the privilege of exploring the area this year, and saw signs of destruction, but in places that were pristine it was beyond articulation. It is simply the mecca for underwater photographers and deserves every cent it gets for its protection.
