Billionaire Richard Branson loves the ocean. He is an active campaigner for shark conservation. He speaks out and funds alternatives to bottom trawling. But to show how much he really loves the ocean, he got a hickey from a stingray.
The rough kiss comes just in time for Valentines Day as Branson visited Grand Cayman’s famed Stingray City. The stingrays are conditioned to eat squid out of snorkelers’’ hands, but sometimes their mouths suck onto the skin of their feeders, creating a bruise.
"But the rays were feeding all around, and they mistook yours truly for their food,” recalls Branson. “Suddenly I felt a painful sensation on my wrist – they have one heck of a painful bite! Rays are actually part of the shark family, so I've now been bitten by a shark.”
We wouldn’t go that far.
Oh, the billionaire’s day didn’t get any better: He smashed his head into a bulletproof glass door later that day, which required three stitches.
