
Shark Researcher Works To Debunk Myths, Study Evolution

Turns out, the color of blood doesn't get much reaction from sharks. It's the scent that attracts them.
"These ideas are repeated over and over," said Stephen Kajiura, who began Florida Atlantic University's shark program at Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex in Boca Raton three years ago to debunk common myths and study shark evolution.
"We are testing some of these long-standing myths and finding out they're not all true," Kajiura said.
Kajiura has worked with the Discovery Channel and will head to Australia this month with the National Geographic Society to study the winghead shark.
One of Kajiura's study areas is focused on why hammerhead sharks and others evolved with such different shaped heads. The winghead shark has the widest head of all hammerheads...
