Shark Feeding Frenzy Caught Off Australian Coast
By Matt J. Weiss, September 8, 2010 @ 07:21 PM (EST)
A rescue helicopter flying off the coast of Queensland, Australia recently captured the scene of a large number or sharks feeding on tuna and baitfish. The phenomenon was taking place very close to shore and near popular swimming beaches.
While some officials are suggesting that shark nets be installed immediately to protect beach goers, the nets are controversial. They’ve been used in Australia for over 70 years with excellent success in protecting swimmers. The down side is that while they do keep the sharks and swimmers apart, they’re extremely expensive and have a history of trapping dolphins, sea turtles and several other endangered species.
The footage aired on Australia’s ten News.
