Shark Celebrity Auction Now Open

By Joseph Tepper, August 1, 2011 @ 10:11 PM (EST)

Ever want to meet some of the world’s top shark experts- you know, the guys and gals you see having all the fun on NatGeo, Discovery Channel, and Animal Planet? Well, now’s your chance!

Just in time for Discovery’s Shark Week bonanza, The Shark Research Institute is hosting an auction, giving you the chance to meet your favorite shark celebs. More than fifty of the world’s formost shark personalities are auctioning off lunches, dinners, diving, and much more as a way to raise awareness and funds for shark conservation.

You can spend some time with notable figures like Wyland, premier ocean artist; Dr. Eugenie Clark, founder of Mote Marine Lab; Dr. Leonard Compagno, the world's top expert on sharks; diving legends Jeremiah Sullivan and Valerie Taylor; or Donald Schultz, host of Animal Planet's Wild Recon, all for a good cause!

Here’s how it works- bid on a shark celeb that lives or works close by (unless you want to fly to him/her), earn the chance to meet them face to face at dinner, or even spend some time with them and their sharks! Other celebrities for auction include award-winning underwater photographers Amos Nachoum, Michael Aw, Matt Potenski; filmmakers Tom Campbell, Jonathan Bird and Christine Bird, Jeff Kurr, Maureen Langevin, Lesley Rochat, Joe Romeiro and Marty Snyderman.

The auction begins today, August 1 at 7 PM EST, and will remain open throughout Shark Week. For more information on the celebrities or to secure your own bid, visit sharks.org.

I could tell you who I'll be bidding for, but that would ruin the fun!
