A young seal pup took its spring break island vacation this afternoon- that is, to Staten Island.
The pup, which scientists estimated to be only two months old, washed up on a Staten Island beach on Wednesday, leaving local residents puzzled by this bizarre sighting. A park ranger kept an eye on the male pup while waiting for a makeshift, animal rescue team to arrive, while onlookers captured video of the strange scene.
A maritime rescue team was quickly assembled and eventually managed encourage the pup back into the ocean, but not after he had put up a little fight. I guess he just wasn’t ready for his beach bash spring break to end.

Seals are normal winter residents of Staten Island south shore beaches and Sandy Hook, NJ. I don't understand why the reporter didn't know this. Not strange at all. The news story is "where is the mother?"
