Scuba Dive During Total Solar Eclipse

Midday on August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will pass over the entire United States from Oregon to South Carolina for the first time since the early 1900s. The Pennyroyal Scuba Center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky is offering a rather interesting view of it—from underwater. Certified divers will have the opportunity to watch the eclipse from beneath the surface of the 22-acre spring-fed Blue Springs Quarry.

A special Solar Eclipse Diver certification was created for the event—even though the chances of using the certification again are quite small. The town of Hopkinsville is considered “The Point of Greatest Eclipse” and the total eclipse will last 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
