Scotland Hopes to Ban Plastic Straws and Other Single-Use Plastics

While Scotland banned the use of plastic straws from Parliament earlier this month there will be a countrywide ban on the single-use plastic product which all too often ends up in the ocean and on some of the most remote beaches around the world. The Scottish Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham has said she would like to see more single-use plastics banned from use and encourages manufacturers to start looking for alternatives. A spokesperson for the Scottish Government explained: “We are committed to ending Scotland’s throwaway culture and are considering how we can reduce single-use items like plastic straws." While lots of legislative issues need to be dealt with in order to create such a ban, it is definitely a step in the right direction for our oceans.
