Scientist Delivers Grim Warning Over UK Fish Stocks

LEADING marine conservation biologist warned at the weekend that up to 90 per cent of the fish stocks around the British Isles could disappear within the next 20 years unless there is a radical re-thinking of conservation measures. Professor Callum Roberts told the British Association for the Advancement of Science annual festival in York, which ended yesterday, that conventional quotas should be scrapped and replaced by large 'no fishing' areas.
