Manila Restaurants Abolish Endangered Dishes. Shark fin Siomai. Turtle Soup. Chilean Sea Bass. Three of many dishes widely served in local and international restaurants. Delicious perhaps. Declining, definitely.
If anything, the Hoi Wan incident created public furor over the blatant consumption of endangered species like Napoleon Wrasse.
Upon realizing the Wrasses, locally termed Mameng, were endangered - concerned citizens reported restaurants in Manila carrying it on their menus. Two Japanese restaurants in the Makati Central Business District serving whale meat were also pointed out. WWF, the global conservation organization, appealed to these establishments to stop serving the animals...
