Rumor Surfaces of Nikon Mirrorless Announcement
The month of August was a let down to some Nikon enthusiasts, who had marked the 24th day of that month as a special day- one to be filled with mirrorless systems and two new SLRs. However, ripples of Japan’s tsunami earlier in this year may have been the cause for a fizzle in Nikon announcement (Nikon only announced the new Coolpix P7100 and AW100). But the rumor forecast seems to point to a more exciting month of Nikon product announcements in September.
Rumors are now circulating the web of a Nikon mirrorless announcement, titled “Nikon In White,” for late September. The invitation for this event promises a night “full of surprises,” and for eager Nikon fans that means one thing only- project code X810.
Project X810 is believed two consist of two new Nikon mirrorless systems and four new lenses, which mimic the Panasonic Lumix series. One of the new cameras is expected to be smaller and have less settings control, while the other will have increased functionality and enhance video not seen in previous compacts. Almost as important are the four new lenses –a pancake wide-angle and super-zoom seem likely- which will not include a macro-only lens.
