That happened in a flash. After less than six months, Retra has decided to cease production of the Retra Flash (strobe). The company sites ballooning production times and lagging delivery times: Some photographers have waited up to three months to receive the product. “This is not acceptable and ultimately is not fair to the photographers who needed to wait for a long time before their products were delivered even after the pre-order phase,” reads a statement from Retra.
While Retra focuses on development “in order to improve the producibility and finally the availability” of the strobe, the company will continue to produce Retra Flash accessories such as the Light Shaping Device (LSD). As well, all warranties will continue to be honored. The company has teased the announcement of a new product later this summer. The exact product isn’t revealed, but it is possible we may see a new strobe that has a significantly shorter production period.
