Three Polish fishing boats from seaside town of Jastarnia, Poland, have broken a ban introduced by the European Union on cod catching in eastern Baltic Sea.
In their storage bunkers Polish controllers found over 3.5 tonnes of fish during a routine inspection on Tuesday night in the port-town of Wawo.
The fishermen are facing a penalty fine of 2,000 up to 20,000 zlotys. However, Polandus Ministry of Maritime Economy is not intending to penalize them just now, as the European Commissionus investigation on this matter is still in its initial stage.
EU inspectors are already in Poland and are going to check the biggest ports of the country.
The EC announced on Thursday that several inspections will be conducted in Poland in order to determine if the ban on cod catching in eastern Baltic Sea is obeyed...
