Poacher Arrested for Stealing Turtle Eggs
Authorities from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission are investigating one of the largest turtle egg poaching incidents on file, where a poacher nabbed 299 loggerhead of them.
The loggerhead is considered one of the most important species for protection in Florida waters. The rarity of the eggs brings a price of $100 for each one. But that’s not nearly enough to cover the $35,000 fine poacher James McGriff is expected to have to pay for his actions.
The eggs were safely returned to the beach and reburied to await hatching.
