Panasonic Announces New Point And Shoot Cameras

By Matt J. Weiss, January 26, 2010 @ 03:38 PM (EST)

The announcements for new camera models just don't stop. Panasonic has been busting out new models recently, and here are a few more.

Panasonic today unveiled the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7. The camera has full manual controls, a 12.1 megapixel sensor, and HD video in both Motion JPEG images and AVCHD Lite.  The camera also utilizes its Power O.I.S image stabilization system, that is supposed to help when shooting movies with the 12x (25-300mm) zoom lens.

A distinguishing characteristic of the DMC-ZS7 is it's built in GPS that can identify half a million locations and geo-tag the images with the location's coordinates embedded in the EXIF data.  I guess that's a cool feature, especially for underwater photography since it can be hard to tell where that clownfish shot was taken.

Panasonic already announced a compatible housing for the ZS7, so you can really push the in camera GPS to its limits.

Panasonic also announced the Lumix DMC-TS2 rugged camera, which replaces the DMC-TS1. The DMC-TS2 is another everything proof camera, but what's nice about this one is that it can hit 10m depth without a housing, on the higher side for waterproofs.

It has a 14MP sensor and a 28-128mm lens. Like the DMC-ZS7 it can shoot AVCHD LIte movies.  Seems like a pretty solid waterproof camera.
