Nikon Announces P310 High End Compact - Does Things Your iPhone Can't
One of biggest gripes on compacts is the that they suck at high ISO. I've been spoiled now by blindly cranking up my SLR knowing it can handle all but the most extreme ISOs. Nikon, today, heard my cries and announced the P310 that is capable of 3200 ISO, and claims to perform well even in the higher numbers.

Additionally, the cameras features an impressive 1.8 lens, matching Olympus's XZ-1 as the ruler of the fast lens compact kingdom. The high ISO and fast lens are ideal for low light situations, but that doesn't always transfer to being useful underwater. It's rare you would need to use the low apertures and high ISOs underwater. What is useful are the full manual controls, the control dial to adjust settings, and a programable Fn button on the front. The 16.0 MP CMOS sensor ain't too shabby either. I haven't mentioned the full 1080p HD video at 30fps, which does not suck. All in all, it's a pretty solid compact, but I would not expect the likes of Nauticam and Fisheye to be working through the night to get out housings for this camera. Look for Ikelite to produce one soon, however.
