New Exciting Features For DPG - News Feed, New Galleries & More

 May 19, 2009 @ 03:02 PM (EST)
Back in March we told you that " We're creating a new type of community, focused around content. DPG will have more of a social media feel, while not reinventing the wheel. For example, you'll never see forums on DPG. Our new features will be more similar to Facebook and Flickr, but focused solely only on the interests of our underwater community." Well, we have finally rolled out a couple of the new features.

Activity Newsfeed
When logged in to DPG you will see a newsfeed of all recent activity from other members as well as new content. So every  time someone posts a new comment, adds a new gallery, or edits their profile, it will be added to the newsfeed along with new contests, articles, blog posts, and product reviews. You can always access this on your "My Profile" page.

New Member Galleries & Photo Comments
We quietly rolled out the new gallery manager a couple of weeks ago. Every member of DPG can now upload as many albums as you'd like - if you haven't done so yet, go ahead and start adding galleries today! Additionally, other members can comment on your images. These comments will appear in the newsfeed with links back to your images so other members can participate in photo comment threads. If you haven't browsed the galleries in the while, why not take a few minutes to do so now? There are thousands of amazing images that will inspire you. Become an active member of the community by adding comments to as many as you'd like!

New Equipment Database
Please take a moment to update your profile with your cameras, housings and strobes. If this info was in your profile previously, it may have been deleted. We have a new comprehensive equipment database. Soon you will be able to create networks of friends within DPG and connect based on common equipment or destinations listed in your profile.

New Member Profile Layout
As you can see we are adding a focus on your profile. if you click on a member's username on any comment, you will be linking to their profile page. Over the next couple of months you'll see new features that tie back to your profile, o you are going to want to keep it looking fresh. Take some time to login and update you profile today.

What To Expect In The Coming Months?

Before the summer you'll be able to create networks of friends within DPG and connect based on common equipment or destinations. By next week we should have a brand new equipment database updated in your profile and in our next newsletter we'll be asking you to update this information.

Definitive Guides To Underwater Photography Techniques

Over the next several months, DPG will be publishing various multi-part series called "The Definitivve Guide To Underwater Photography".Topics covered will include Super Macro, Wide Angle, Lighting, Shooting With Models, Using Fisheye Lenses, Over-Unders, Close Focus Wide Angle and more!

Getting Started Section
In addition to the definitive guides to various underwater photography techniques, we will be launching a comprehensive guide to getting started in underwater photography. This will cover the basic principles of underwater photography, and how to select the right equipment for you.

More of YOU - Your Ideas, Stories, & Reviews: Although members have always been able to submit to DPG, soon you'll be able to create your own blog, submit complete articles, news, and reviews right from your profile.

We strive to provide the most complete resource possible, and we want to hear your ideas and suggestions. Remember, we are here to serve you - the global community of underwater photographers and videographers. We have incorporated member feedback as it comes to us, and we want to hear from you - our ears are always open!
