
Highway Discovery: New Whale Species Discovered Under Freeway

Now that’s a road bump!
While working on a highway expansion, workers in California have unearthed the fossilized remains of four never-before-seen species of baleen whales. It all comes from a California state law requiring the presence of a paleontologist and archaeologist at all such excavations.
The lane widening turned into an underwater treasure trove, complete with 30 cetacean skulls and other ancient ocean dwellers like sharks.
