New ON1 RAW Software Takes Aim at Lightroom

ON1 Photo RAW

Options are always a good thing—and that extends to RAW image processing and organization. The new ON1 Photo RAW 2018 software is a fully blown editing and image organization software that is a promising alternative to the ubiquitous combination of Lightroom and Adobe RAW.

In the editing department, ON1 took input from the photography community to incorporate new features such as several masking tools to selectively edit areas of an image. There’s also a built-in HDR merger and panorama stitching feature.

The overall user interface of the application is a bit less cluttered than what you may be used to with Adobe products. The software also has upgraded RAW processing power and tools such as “Paint with Color Brush” and “Selectively Add or Remove Noise.”

The developers also put significant effort into emphasizing ease-of-use with the workflow. Photographers can browse and catalogue their images right from the beginning of the workflow without slowing down the browser.

You can download and try out ON1 Photo RAW 2018 with a free 30-day trial. Owners of previous versions can upgrade for $100, while a brand-new user will have to pay $140. Learn more about on the ON1 website.
